Status of the Fishery (as of 07/16/2007)

Goose Lake is 754 total acres divided into two basins. The walleye population is maintained through biennial fingerling stocking. Goose Lake is assigned to lake class 24. Lakes grouped in class 24 are typically deep with hard water. In order to assess the current fishery, lake management goals, and walleye stocking success Goose Lake was netted in July of 2007.

The walleye gillnet catch (1.7/set) fell below the lake management goal but was in the normal range for lake class 24. The 2002 and 1997 catch rates were near 6 per net. Walleye size increased since the 2002 sample with averages of 19.5 inches and 2.7 pounds. Only one walleye less than 16 inches was captured.
